    12 hours ago, I landed my butt on homeland. Felt happy and sad at the same time, happy cuz I missed Singapore...especially the rest of my family!
    My darling doggies too!! And, not forgetting- Singapore food!!! (mmm...*licks lips*) but at the same time, I missed Sichuan and it was a bit of a heartache to leave. The beautiful mountains and valleys, waterfalls, rivers and lakes, twists and turns of the wilderness and the new tibetan friends I made, not forgetting the pandas, sheeps, lambs, camels, goats, piggies and cows!!!! Went to the part of China where we were close to the tibetan borders and visited the tribes.

    Though it was 10 days of holiday and fun, I gained more knowledge than I lost money. I didn't realise how really fortunate I am until I saw how those people lived in poverty. Even the OCIP I did in Indonesia when I was in college, can never be comparable to the poverty of the people in China where I was holidaying. The city people were certainly far more well-to-do, contrast to the village and mountain people. Imagine, a peasant actually owns an average of only 3-5 suits of clothings, where each can be worn for 7 years..torn and patched over the years whereas in Singapore, even the poorest of the poor have more clothings on their bare backs to shield themselves from the scorching tropical sun.

    While holidaying in China, I was thinking, gee, everything is so cheap!!! $2 in China is equivalent to 50 cents in Singapore and that $2 can buy a local a bowl of piping hot noodles from the roadside hawker. What can 50 cents do for us?? Maybe only take a bus ride around Singapore. But at the same time, I didn't realise how big the picture was. A normal waiter working in the city of China only earns an average of 800 yuan a month, and the most a mountaineous farmer can earn is far less than that. $2 to them is how we see $2 here. Make sense? It certainly did to me.

    I remembered my mum jokingly asking this tibetan girl and her parents selling trinkets and accessories whether she wanted to fly with us to Singapore so that she can matchmake her. Her parents immediately said yes and pushed her to us, but the girl said no. Gee.. the girl was around my age, 1 year younger. If I were her, I'd say no too. Over my dead body I say. Ha! No matter how poor I am, I'll never stoop so low to sell myself and lose my integrity. I'd rather beg and plead on the streets to make ends meet.

    But, think about it, given a real situation, some girls have no choice.

     -Yours truly ;
